Sleepy Head

I got home from work and decided to lay down for a minute and only woke up when Andy called at 11.30 to get my credit card details (he’s buying some tee-shirts online, must remember to tell him to get himself a debit card).  Hope I can fall asleep again.

Looks like my contract is going to be extended for another week.  Simon told me tonight that I should start looking for another one but I don’t fancy going straight into another job.  It’s a hard call – if I’m not working by November then there is nothing at all around.  As much as I love having time to devote to writing, I have really enjoyed getting back into programming again (I did like of it in my contract last year – it was mostly data analysis).  So much so that I’ve been considering doing post-grad.

Today I checked out some of the courses – if I’m going to do it, I want to do really geeky stuff like encryption algorithms and stuff.  A lot of the courses are very business oriented but if I just want to learn stuff like that, I could sit down and do it in my own time.  It’s not like it’s hard to learn a new programming language.  Having said that, I really feel like if I want to keep working in the IT industry, I need to update my skills.

I really, really don’t want to study part time while working – I did that for my undergrad degree and the last 2-3 years of it, I just was so burnt out and not caring.  I think I might apply for all the post grad scholarships I can and, if I get one, do the course.

On top of that, I’ve been feeling really restless lately.  The course I want to do is at QUT which would mean moving – and that’s a good thing.

If you are a Bruce Springsteen fan (which would be me), you can download the first song off his new album here.  For free.  How friendly.

  1. Debit cards are the best – especially for spend-freaks like me!

  2. I love getting back into some coding every now and then too … it is so much geek fun! All I usually do now is some Excel Visual Basic, but it is so much better than all the management / politics stuff 🙂

  3. Good luck with your study plans hon, I hope it all works out! I am trying to figure out uni stuff for myself right now and if I can actually afford it. I don’t think I’ll be able to do it full time but full time work and part time study? Yes, unfortunately 😦
